Janene Lovullo

Southern California native Janene Lovullo began her career in Los Angeles where, at age 19, she was cast as Maria in Downey Civic Light Opera’s West Side Story. Just after her professional stage debut, she was cast as an understudy and Booth Singer in The New York Shakespeare Festival’s The Pirates of Penzance, her first Equity show. In the years that followed, Janene toured with the company in the show’s 1st National tour as Kate and later joined the Broadway company as Maureen McGovern’s understudy for Mabel.
During her years in New York, Janene performed in numerous Broadway productions, in roles that included Grizabella in CATS and Fantine in Les Miserables, for which she also performed in the Los Angeles production.

Janene currently performs in the Los Angeles area. Her cabaret show, You Are My World, was performed at supper club Sterling’s Upstairs at Vitello’s. She is working on a new show to promote the release of her album, This Moment, and is in preparation to record her Broadway CD.

This Moment

Janene Lovullo’s first solo album, This Moment, is a collaboration of some of the industry’s great musical talents. It was engineered by Academy and Emmy Award-nominated score mixer Dan Wallin; orchestrated by Tim Simonec, conductor and orchestrator to the 2010 Academy Award-winning score for Disney/Pixar’s UP; and was mastered at the Mastering Lab in Ojai, California by multiple Grammy Award winner Doug Saks. The album was originally intended to be a piano/vocal piece with arranger and music director Christopher Marlowe, whose impressive resume includes an 11-year association with the late Nancy LaMott.“I wanted This Moment to have the feel of a symphonic masterpiece,” says Janene. “My music director, Chris Marlowe, and I chose material from all the greatest composers we loved, from operetta, music theater, art song and The Great American Songbook. Then Chris took many of these songs and brilliantly arranged them so that the listener might hear and rediscover these songs in a new and creative way.”
Don Gigware of BroadwayWorld.com comments on Janene’s talents. “To say that Lovullo is a consummate singer is an understatement. She has an astounding range with a delivery that would make many singers envious. She can be as dynamic as she wants to be, but will also lower her instrument to almost a whisper. For me, this is the mark of an exceptional artist who is first and foremost into telling the story of every tune she sings.
